All veterinarians and their staff are cordially invited to attend a continuing education lecture presented by Dr. George Kramer, Diplomate, ACVIM (Cardiology) entitled "New Cardiac Drugs", to be held on Thursday, August 14, at Atlantic Coast Veterinary Specialists, 3250 Veterans Highway, Bohemia, NY. The lecture is sponsored by Boehringer Ingelheim, manufacturers of Vetmedin® (pimobendan). This lecture will provide attendees with 2 CE credits for the New York State Veterinary Medical Society (NYSVMS).

All veterinarians and their staff are cordially invited to attend a continuing education lecture presented by Dr. Karyn Maxworthy (Briggs) on "Surgical Management Of Cruciate Disease In The Dog: Lateral Sutures, TPLO, and TTA," to be held on Tuesday, May 13 at Atlantic Coast Veterinary Specialists, 3250 Veterans Highway, Bohemia, NY.

Karyn K. Maxworthy (Briggs), DVM, MS, Diplomate, ACVS

Dr. Maxworthy (Briggs) completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI, where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology in 1993. She received her DVM degree from Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI, in 1999, graduating with honors as #1 in her class. She then completed a one-year rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA, from July 1999 to July 2000, followed by a one-year surgical internship at Dallas Veterinary Surgical Center in Dallas, TX, from July 2000 to July 2001. She completed a surgical residency at Washington State University in Pullman, WA, from July 2001 to July 2004, during which time she received her Master's Degree in Veterinary Clinical Science in 2003. She has been practicing small animal surgery in the metro New York area since 2004 and joined the surgery staff of Atlantic Coast Veterinary Specialists in January 2008. Her special interests are orthopedics and soft tissue surgery.

Her publications include "Comparison of the Osteogenic Effects between Two Surface Interferential Stimulation Devices to Enhance Surgically Based Spinal Fusion" published in VCOT (Veterinary Comparative Orthopedics and Traumatology) in 2004 and "The Canine Meniscus: Anatomy, Function, Injury, Treatment, and Current Research," published in Compendium in September 2004. She has lectured on numerous topics including laryngeal paralysis; cranial cruciate disease in the dog; endocrine surgery; NSAIDs in veterinary medicine; diskospondylitis in the dog, cat, and human; electrical stimulation and osteogenesis; suture patterns and materials; respiratory surgery; and ocular and digit metastases of a primary bronchial adenocarcinoma in a cat.

Dr. Maxworthy (Briggs) is available for consultations and surgery at Atlantic Coast Veterinary Specialists weekdays Monday through Friday.
