George A. Kramer, DVM, Diplomate ACVIM (Cardiology)

A native of Long Island, Dr. George Kramer dreamed of becoming a veterinarian since he was a young boy. His undergraduate studies took place at the University of Vermont and the University of Maryland, where he graduated with honors. After completing his undergraduate studies, he moved to Boston and entered a Master's Program in Molecular Biology at Northeastern University. Following his studies in molecular biology, he entered veterinary school at Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine and earned his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1986. D. Kramer subsequently completed a medicine and surgery internship, followed by a residency in internal medicine and cardiology at the prestigious Animal Medical Center in New York City.
Dr. Kramer is board certified as a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in Cardiology and founder and chief of staff of Ultravet Diagnostics Veterinary Imaging and Referral Center in Mineola, NY, and Atlantic Coast Veterinary Specialists in Bohemia, NY. He has professional interests in cardiology, internal medicine, oncology, ultrasonography and echocardiography. In addition to his busy practices, Dr. Kramer serves as ultrasonographer for the Bonx Zoo and Coney Island Aquarium and was recently appointed a Fellow of the Wildlife Conservation Society. New York Magazine has listed Dr. Kramer as the best veterinary cardiologist in the NY city area.
Dr. Kramer has lectured locally, nationally and internationally. He has given lectures at the Annual Forums of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, International Symposia of the Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care Society, Veterinary Professional Quest Conferences, Atlantic Coast Veterinary Conferences, Western States Veterinary Conference, University of Paris Veterinary College, Westchester-Rockland Veterinary Medical Association, New York City Veterinary Medical Association and Long Island Veterinary Medical Association. His publications, "Plasma Taurine Concentrations in Normal Dogs and in Dogs with Heart Disease" and "New Technique for Myocardial Biopsies in the Dog," have appeared in the Journal of Veterinary Internal Medicine.
Besides his several pets, including a Weimaraner dog, five cats, two horses and a cockatoo, Dr. Kramer is passionate about music, skiing and fishing.
Karyn K. Maxworthy (Briggs), DVM, MS, Diplomate ACVS

Dr. Maxworthy (Briggs) completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI, where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology in 1993. She received her DVM degree from Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI in 1999, graduating with honors as #1 in her class. She then completed a one-year rotation internship in medicine and surgery at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine from July 1999 to July 2000, followed by a one-year surgical internship at Dallas Veterinary Surgical Center in Dallas, TX. Dr. Maxworthy (Briggs) completed a surgical residency at Washington State University in Pullman, WA, from July 2001 to July 2004, during which time she received her Master's Degree in Veterinary Clinical Science in 2003. She has been practicing veterinary surgery in the metro New York area since 2004.
Her publications include "Comparison of the Osteogenic Effects between Two Surface Interferential Stimulation Devices to Enhance Surgically Based Spinal Fusion" published in VCOT (Veterinary Comparative Orthopedics and Traumatology) in 2004 and "The Canine Meniscus: Anatomy, Function, Injury, Treatment, and Current Research" published in the Compendium for the Practicing Veterinarian in September 2004. She has lectured on numerous topics including Laryngeal Paralysis, Cranial Cruciate Disease in the Dog, Endocrine Surgery, NSAIDs in Veterinary Medicine, Diskospondylitis in the Dog, Cat, and Human, Electrical Stimulation and Osteogenesis, Suture Patterns and Materials, Respiratory Surgery and Ocular and Digit Metastases of a Primary Bronchial Adenocarcinoma in a Cat.
A specialist in Veterinary surgery, Dr. Maxworthy (Briggs) is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. Her professional interests are in orthopedics and soft tissue surgery
.Dr. Nina Malik, DVM, Veterinary Acupuncturist

Dr. Nina Malik received her DVM degree from Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2005 and completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the University of Pennsylvania from 2005 to 2006. Upon completion of her internship, she worked as an emergency and critical care clinician at a veterinary referral and specialty hospital in Delaware.
From 2007 to 2008, Dr. Malik completed the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society course on veterinary acupuncture and an internship focusing exclusively on veterinary acupuncture in Pennsylvania. She has also served as a companion animal consultant veterinarian for Pfizer Animal Health in the Veterinary Medical Investigation and Product Support Department from 2007 to 2008. She is a member of the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society, the American Academy of Veterinary Acupuncture, and the AVMA.
Dr. Malik will be providing a variety of services at Atlantic Coast Veterinary Specialists including acupuncture and electroacupuncture as part of an integrative health care program for companion animals. Her special interests include internal medicine, oncology, neurologic and musculoskeletal disease.
Dr. Malik is available for consultations and acupuncture treatments Tuesday through Friday.
