January 2017 Case of the Month

Duke Lanzetta

Meet Duke – an eleven year-old chihuahua mix and longtime patient of Dr. Kramer’s. Duke has been coming to Dr. Kramer for check-ups and follow-up exams for years. Dr. Kramer travelled to Versailles, France in the beginning of December 2016 to collaborate with Dr. Masami Uechi, along with an international team of veterinary surgeons, on an open heart mitral valve repair for Duke. Duke’s degenerative heart disease was so severe that, despite receiving optimal medical therapy, his life expectancy was limited – surgery with Dr. Uechi was his only option.

Despite a few post-operative complications, Duke recovered well and returned to New York and has been regularly seeing Dr. Kramer for recheck examinations.
