If your pet is suffering from a neurological disorder or has symptoms that suggest a problem with the brain or nervous system, your veterinarian will refer you to Atlantic Coast Veterinary Specialists for further diagnostic tests. Our neurology team is highly experienced in diagnosing and treating all neurological issues, head and spinal cord trauma and disc problems, among others that can be distressing to the pet and highly challenging to manage. Diseases affecting the nervous system include:
- Seizure disorders
- Disc herniation (causing damage to the spinal cord)
- Spinal cord disease (causing weakness & paralysis)
- Muscle disorders
- Brain disorders
- Vestibular disturbances (loss of balance, inner ear infections, etc.)
- Nerve disease
- Sleep disorders
- Neck & back pain
- Lumbosacral disorders (which can result in pain, urinary or fecal incontinence & poor tail movement)
Our advanced imaging, including digital radiography, high-resolution ultrasonography and CT scanning, in combination with other tests, make it possible to closely examine the brain, spinal cord and nerves to diagnose the problem and develop treatment options for your pet. Once identified, many neurological diseases are highly treatable. Treatment may include pharmaceutical management and/or surgery. Your pet can do very well with our careful attention and 24-hour monitoring and medication management.
